VƯƠN CAO Young Carers Group
Extended Families Australia is launching a new initiative called “VƯƠN CAO” Young Carers Group!
VƯƠN CAO (means to grow in Vietnamese) is a Peer Support Group for Vietnamese youth (13-17 years of age) living in the west who are involved in caring for a brother, sister or other close family member who has a disability.
The program is facilitated by fully screened, trained and bilingual Facilitators with experience working in other Extended Families community inclusion programs for the Vietnamese community!
VƯƠN CAO will provide community outings, fun and friendship meet ups twice a month for 10-12 young carers of Vietnamese background living in the western metro region. These young carers may be helping their parents look after a younger or older sibling with a disability or they might even be helping look after a parent or grandparent with a disability.
We have developed this program to give young Vietnamese carers a break and to provide them with supported opportunities to try fun new things in the community and make new friends. VƯƠN CAO will also help the young carers to strengthen emotional resilience skills to help them in their caring role.
We have 10-12 places available in VƯƠN CAO which is being funded through a six-month government grant (from Dec 2021-June 2022). We hope to continue and expand the program in the future if it proves to be successful!
The program is FREE to eligible young carers.

Living with a disability can be difficult. We support people aged 0-30 and their families in Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula to build friendships and connect with their community.
