Vuon lên - Facilitating friendship, belonging
and achievement for young Vietnamese people

Vuon lên is a pilot program Extended Families is trialling in the western metro region of Melbourne for young autistic people of Vietnamese background who are experiencing significant barriers to meaningful community participation because of their disability.

The program is being offered in collaboration with the Vietnamese Families’ Special Needs Group with funding from the NDIS’ Information, Linkages and Capacity Building Program.

The pilot offers weekly structured small group friendship meet ups for young people (17-25 years) with the aim of supporting participants to improve their social connection, build on their interests and strengths, develop key life skills to boost confidence and motivation, and facilitate meaningful community and vocational inclusion.

The program is supported by bi-lingual facilitator’s who work both individually and in group settings with participants and parents helping families to understand inclusion barriers and the supports that are available in the community to overcome them.

Vuon lên will be launched in October 2019.
