Family Support
The family of any child between the ages of 0 – 17 years with a disability has the opportunity to access our service. However, as with many community services, the type of government funding our program receives determines specific eligibility criteria for participation.
Generally a child must have a condition as defined in the
Disability Act 2006 which includes sensory, physical or neurological impairment, acquired brain injury, intellectual disability or developmental delay.
In the Southern and Peninsula regions, with funding from Home and Community Care, children with a mental illness and attention deficit disorders can also be included.
Within those parameters, a child’s acceptance into the program is based on the assessment of the Regional Coordinator, who determines whether or not the child’s care needs can be safely met by a volunteer in the community.
EFA will discuss any decision and the reasons for the decision and forward written notification. Further information about eligibility and appeals process is in the Child and Family Information Sheet.
Child and Family Information Sheet The best way to get to know us is to become an EFA member. For a very small annual membership fee, families can:
• receive invitations to EFA social events, fundraisers and information sessions
• receive our newsletter
• support EFA and have the chance to influence service delivery through voting rights in the Association and representation on the Committee of Management.
